Rafferty in fine form; Prairie Ridge wins at Lake ParkFeb 5, 2014 10:54 PM - Elk Grove's Amelia Rafferty started the season on the sidelines, but the Grenadiers senior came back with a vengeance. Rafferty injured her right hand in early November and did not return to the gym until late December, but she more than made up for lost time on Wednesday at the Lake Park regional. Rafferty was in a zone from start to finish in taking second place in the all-around (37.825). Prairie Ridge co-op was also locked in, securing the regional title with an impressive 148.375l points in Roselle.

Crystal Lake South happy with FVC runner-up finishFeb 1, 2014 8:03 PM - Sure, Crystal Lake South coach Ross Ryan would like to have hoisted the Fox Valley Conference wrestling tournament championship trophy Saturday at McHenry High School. But Ryan was happy with his team's second place conference finish. Wrestling without 195-pounder Brian Pence, the Gators (163 ½ points) were runner-up to Crystal Lake Central, which claimed top honors with 199 points. Cary-Grove was third a half point behind South with 163 points.

McHenry holds slim lead in FVC tournamentJan 31, 2014 11:26 PM - McHenry will head into the final day of the Fox Valley Conference wrestling tournament just ahead of Crystal Lake Central and CL South when action resumes Saturday morning, beginning with the semifinal round at the Warriors' West campus. Both Central and South trail McHenry by 4.5 points, 88.5 -- 84.0, while Dundee-Crown and Huntley round out the top 5 with 75 and 71 overall points. Cary-Grove stands sixth with 70 points.

Huntley closes in on FVC Valley titleJan 31, 2014 10:28 PM - Trailing 15-11 at halftime, while shooting 20 percent along with standout sophomore center Ali Andrews scoring only 3 points, Huntley girls basketball coach Steve Raethz knew the complexion of the game had to change if his Red Raiders were going to stay undefeated in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division play. It turned out to be a tale of two halves for the Red Raiders. With Ali Andrews scoring 19 of her game-high 22 points in the second half, Huntley outscored host Prairie Ridge 36-27 during the final 16 minutes in posting a 47-42 conference victory.

Dundee-Crown can't slow down Prairie RidgeJan 21, 2014 10:18 PM - The Dundee-Crown boys basketball couldn't limit Prairie Ridge's runs Tuesday night. The Wolves had three runs in which they outscored the Chargers by at least 10 points and came away with a 54-43 Fox Valley Conference Valley Division victory in Crystal Lake.

Senior Riley Wicks hit five 3-pointers and the Red Raiders went 11-for-19 behind the arc as they pulled away to a 59-47 Fox Valley Conference Valley Division boys basketball victory in Huntley.

Painful win for Prairie Ridge against GrantJan 4, 2014 10:58 PM - Prairie Ridge's boys basketball team kept hitting shots, and then a Wolves player hit the court. Hard. Starting guard Matt Perhats rolled his right ankle during the second quarter of Prairie Ridge's 64-42 nonconference win over visiting Grant in Crystal Lake on Saturday night. It's been a tough run for Grant lately. The Bulldogs (7-6) lost to Richmond-Burton in the championship game of Marengo's E.C. Nichols Tournament three days after Christmas and have started off the New Year with back-to-back losses on the road, giving them their first three-game losing streak of the season.
