9 from suburbs win Evans scholarshipsDec 30, 2015 6:05 PM - Alec Heyde, a senior at Prospect High School, had plenty of reasons to celebrate on his birthday in November. That's when he learned he was one of 12 caddies in Illinois to win the Chick Evans Scholarship. Nine of the winners were from the Northwest suburbs. The scholarship, funded for the last 85 years by members of the Western Golf Association, covers four years of housing and tuition and is valued at more than $80,000. Evans Scholars are chosen based on a strong caddie record, excellent academics, demonstrated financial need and outstanding character.

The parties resumed talks Monday night, according to a post on the teachers union's webpage.

Meadows stands tall before alumsJan 5, 2015 11:14 PM - Past Rolling Meadows players who helped steer the Mustangs girls basketball into one of the top programs in the area were in the stands for Monday's nonconference game against visiting McHenry. They got to see first hand that the current players are doing a fine job of sustaining the success. Led by sophomore Kyra Spiwak (12 points, 4 assists) and junior Hannah Mickey (11 rebounds, 6 points), the Mustangs improved to 12-4 with a 57-32 triumph over the Warriors (8-9).

Another fine finish as Lake Zurich tips Crystal Lake SouthJan 2, 2015 11:03 PM - Lake Zurich's boys basketball team brought in the new year like it ended the old one. Only the venue was different as the Bears finished with a strong effort in the final few minutes to get past Crystal Lake South 57-51 in a nonconference game at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wis., on Friday. Lake Zurich scored the final 10 points and held the Gators scoreless for the last couple of minutes.

McHenry nips Huntley to take over 1stMay 12, 2014 9:27 PM - It was an inning that proved to be fatal for Huntley and freshman pitcher Kateri Conklin. After Conklin blanked McHenry for four innings, the Warriors scored 3 in the fifth which was enough to produce a 3-1 win over the visiting Red Raiders in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division softball action in McHenry Monday.
