You woke at 5 a.m., washed and dressed yourself, washed and fed your baby. "Then you put your baby in the baby carriage and pushed him to the barn where you milked the cows." You put the milk in cans and cooled it in the running stream in the "milk house."

Feb 19, 2015 1:00 AM - With all the interest in the current movie about the 1965 voting rights march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, I've been thinking about what was going on in Arlington Heights during the 1960s. But I can think of only one local participant in the actual Selma march, only one person who risked his life, Rabbi Hillel Gamoran of Beth Tikvah Congregation.

Frisbie: Sleigh rides a highlight of winter in early Arlington Hts.
Dec 16, 2014 3:31 PM - A local farmer called Billy Guild brought enchantment to schoolchildren. When snowy crystals began to dance in December skies, the kids at North School would look for Billy and his sleigh. Billy was, as Daisy Daniels wrote in "Prairieville, U.S.A.," "of small stature, with merry blue eyes." He "magically appeared on snowy, blowy days with his trusty team of horses and a bobsleigh."
