Sep 19, 2011 4:37 AM - As a girl in Itasca, Christina Rafidia introduced hummus to classmates in her Catholic grade school. Now, as the newly crowned Miss Arab USA, the 22-year-old is still educating folks about what it means to be an Arab woman.

Suburban high schools flock to TeamDance championships in PeoriaMar 6, 2011 7:48 PM - Poms, flag teams and dancers from more than 100 high schools throughout Illinois are converging on the Peoria Civic Center today for one of prep sports' most colorful state championships. But if you think "best in poms" means a traditional halftime routine, think again. Just the name of the sanctioning organization -- TeamDance Illinois -- reflects the trend. In all, more than 2,000 students will be competing, as they showcase the best dance, flag and poms routines from throughout the state.

Driscoll alum helped save school's spiritNov 23, 2010 7:03 PM - It's hard to tally all the hearts that were broken the day officials announced Driscoll Catholic High School had to close in May 2009. The 43-year-old Addison school graduated thousands of students, drew scores of parents and staff into its community, and launched several state champion sports teams, including a 7-year football dynasty.

Driscoll community says last goodbyeNov 15, 2010 3:15 PM - They all parked on the north side of the former Driscoll Catholic High School building Monday, which still bears a sign telling the world it's the "Home of the Highlanders" and another message board reading "Live Jesus in our hearts forever." Then roughly 30 Driscoll alumni, former staff members and Addison officials trekked to the south side of the building at 555 N. Lombard Road to watch it begin to crumble.

Addison sets Driscoll demolition ceremony for MondayNov 13, 2010 4:07 PM - As the community prepares to say goodbye to the building that once housed Driscoll Catholic High School, Addison officials have organized a ceremonial start to the demolition on Monday morning. At 10 a.m. Nov. 15, the contractor will tear an opening near the southwest corner of the building at 555 N. Lombard Road, starting the final chapter in the history of the school that closed about 18 months ago.
