ECC celebrates International Education Week with events and activities

Each fall, Elgin Community College celebrates International Week, a showcase of the cultures, history, food, and more of ECC's international students, faculty, and employees.

This year, ECC's International Education Week will take place in-person and virtually from Nov. 14-18, with daily events and activities for all to enjoy. The public is welcome to attend.


On Monday, Nov. 14, ECC President David Sam opens the week's events with a Taiwanese Ruan musical performance by Tzu Tzen and a special performance by Mongolian throat singer Tamir Hargana.

The opening ceremony and welcome reception will be 11 a.m. to noon in Building B, Jobe Lounge. Light refreshments will be served, and all are encouraged to wear the national dress of their home country or culture.

On Tuesday, Nov. 15, the Bill Pelz Global Speaker Series will present "Destination Global Scholar: How the Journey to Global Learning Begins at ECC."

Learn from a panel of ECC scholars about the importance of global learning and cultural competency as they discuss the new Global Scholar Designation -- a new transcript designation available to ECC students looking to increase their knowledge and awareness of global issues through a specialized selection of courses.

On Wednesday, Nov. 16, there will be an International Student Panel from 11 a.m. to noon in Building B, Rm 180, Heritage Room. Enjoy refreshments and listen to ECC's current international students discuss their culture and reflect on life in the U.S.

An International Street Fair will close out the week on Thursday, Nov. 17. ECC student clubs will provide international street food from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Building B, Jobe Lounge. There will also be music from In-Tune DJ, Dapper Brews, and an on-site henna artist.
