The Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs awarded the 2022 Unity Award to GFWC Northwest Suburban Woman's Club/Schaumburg for their coordination of the collection of baby products for a drive-through baby shower held at the Hines VA complex in the Fall of 2021.
GFWC Northwest Suburban Woman's Club reached out to the community and its sister clubs in Cook, DuPage and Kane counties to collect over $16,000 in baby products and monetary donations. From July through August, 2021, items were collected at the Trickster Cultural Center and stored at Ill-State Representative Michelle Mussman's office.
With the help of the U.S. Army Career Center/Schaumburg, cases of diapers, baby wipes, clothing and other baby items were transported to VA Hines/Fisher House. The Hines VA Drive-Through Baby Shower recipients were female veterans and the spouses of male veterans who received services from the Great Lakes VA clinics.
Northwest Suburban Woman's Club is a 501(c)3 philanthropic organization that supports local, state, and national projects. Its members are a group of diverse women who share a dedication to community service. For further information please contact Carly Dillard at gfwcnorthwest2018@gmail.com.
