Maine Township Clerk Pete Gialamas formally presented a check on behalf of the Maine Township board to Honor Flight Chicago for $1,000.

The check was presented in the name of the late township Clerk Gary Warner, who served the township from 1986-2017. A U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, Warner spearheaded this annual donation from the township, which still takes place every year.

"No board in the state does what Maine Township does for Honor Flight and our veterans," said Honor Flight Chicago representative Ron Wolflick.

"The township is honored to be able to make this donation on behalf of our residents and give something back to those who gave us so much," Gilamas said.

Honor Flight Chicago is a nonprofit organization that recognizes the bravery and patriotism of America's senior war veterans with all-expenses paid trips to Washington, D.C. Upon their return home, our nation's heroes are greeted by hundreds of ordinary citizens waiting for them in the airport to welcome them back home and thank them for their service.
