The 14th season of St. John's Lutheran Church's Artist Series continues on Sunday, Jan. 30, when the celebrated Judson University Choir from Elgin will appear in concert. The event was previously scheduled for spring of 2020, but was postponed due to COVID concerns. The community is invited to the concert at 3 p.m. the church, 215 S. Lincoln St. in Lombard. A free-will offering of $10 is suggested. A reception will follow.

The Judson University Choir is well-known for its numerous tours at home and abroad. The choir performs a variety of music, ranging from choral masterworks to black gospel anthems to Taizé choruses to contemporary praise and worship songs. Historically they tour within the United States two times each year and have regularly toured Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

The choir performs under the direction of Dr. Warren Anderson, a Judson alumnus (Class of 1986). Anderson serves also as Director of Judson's Demoss Center for Worship in the Performing Arts, with responsibilities that include directing the Judson University Choir and teaching in the Worship Arts and Music departments. A Judson "lifer," Anderson also has served his alma mater as Dean of the Chapel, Director of Christian Ministries, and Lecturer in Communication Arts during his 30-plus years as a Judson faculty/staff member.

The choir will be joined in their Lombard appearance by Judson alumnus and Artist-in-Residence Rev. Huntley Brown, internationally known concert pianist who has performed with many well-known ministries, including the Billy Graham Association.

Recently, the Judson University Choir has shifted its ministry focus to become a true worship-leading ensemble, whose concerts feature specific narrative arcs, opportunities for congregational participation, a diverse repertoire, and the use of a wide variety of instrumental accompaniment. This direction has allowed the choir to co-minister with a number of contemporary Christian worship musicians and bands.

Among the compositions to be included in the program at St. John's are "Guide My Feet" (traditional spiritual), "If I Stand" (Mullins/Cudworth), and "Let Darkness Fall (Adagio in G Minor)" (Abinoni/Giazotto & Stewart).

St. John's Lutheran Church is located on the southeast corner of Lincoln and Maple Streets in Lombard. Information about St. John's Artist Series is available by calling the church office, (630) 629-2515.
