League of Women Voters hosts virtual forum on Winfield Fire Protection referendum
The Wheaton League of Women Voters is hosting an online forum on the Winfield Fire referendum question at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 6, moderated by League president Judy Beaver and member Pam Zimmermann.
The format will be a 10-minute presentation by proponents and opponents of the ballot question with 3 minutes provided for rebuttal by each side followed by a 30-minute question period where the public can ask questions of the presenters through the chat feature of Zoom. The league is planning on recording the meeting and providing it to Winfield public access media if they are interested in broadcasting it.
This virtual forum is to hear from both sides regarding the Winfield Fire District referendum that will be on the ballot on April 6.
The referendum will again be on the ballot this spring to try for a property tax increase that would allow the Winfield Fire Protection District to reopen a fire station that is currently closed near Winfield and Roosevelt roads. The tax increase will allow for repairs to both the building, infrastructure, equipment, vehicles, as well as staffing. This referendum did not pass when it was presented to voters on the ballot during the November 2020 election.
