Like a good book or movie, the outcome of who would win the DuPage Valley Conference girls golf title went down to the end.

Going into Wednesday's DVC meet, Neuqua Valley and Waubonsie Valley were tied for points earned in dual-meet competition. The Wildcats would win the overall league title by winning Wednesday's meet and that's what happened.

Neuqua won its third straight DVC title by shooting a 315 at Phillips Golf Course in Aurora. Metea Valley was second with 320 and Waubonsie was third at 332. Naperville North (342) and Naperville Central (426) followed.

"It's been a fun season. We've gotten close playing together," Neuqua's Sophie Lagman said.

Lagman was part of the meet that needed extra time to be decided, who was going to be the individual conference champ.

She and Metea's Macey Martin and Abby Terada all shot a 76 and then meant a playoff at the Par 4 16th hole.

When it was all done, Terada was DVC champ, Lagman was second and Martin third.

"I'm more confident than I was coming in. It's exciting to think where the team can go," Terada said.

Phillips Golf Course is a familiar place to play for area high school teams, but always provides challenges.

"An eagle on the 16th helps and consistently making par on the front nine," Terada said.

Lagman said it's crucial to stay focused during a playoff hole.

"I was definitely nervous, but I have been working on getting my emotions together," she said. "It was a good hole for me, but there's nothing you can do when people do even better."

The other three scores that counted for the Wildcats' final total came from Rebecca Wu (79), Mady Coffey (79) and Gauri Bhanot (81). They earned top 10 medals.

Also competing for the league champs were Simren Sikand, Katelyn Linden, Ruthie Martin and Evan Ashley.

"I think I am on the right track. I'm not peaking, but hopefully over the next two weeks I will be peaking," Martin said.

Pranvi Kakkar shot an 82 to add to Metea's team score with Madison Wigfield contributing an 86, Kakkar earned a top 10 spot.

The top score for Waubonsie was Kelly Cong with a 77 and Lilly Riley nailed an 82 which put them both in the top 10.

Sarah Sanek's 82 got her a top 10 award and was Naperville North's best score.

The top mark for Naperville Central was Poppy Marusin at 100.

The DVC teams are next in action Sept. 29 with Class 2A regional competition. Metea, Naperville Central and Naperville North are at the Kaneland Regional at Hughes Creek Golf Course in Elburn. Neuqua and Waubonsie take part in the Plainfield North Regional at Whitetail Ridge Golf Course in Yorkville.
