Freedom Classic 5K in Mundelein

The 43rd Freedom Classic 5K will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Monday in Mundelein. New this year is that the race begins and ends at Dunbar Recreation Center, 888 Dunbar Road, at Keith Mione Community Park. The professionally chip-timed course goes through Community Park and Loch Lomond. Race day registration will be available from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m. at Dunbar. Also new is a bounce house and post-race doughnuts for participants provided by Duck Donuts. Every registered participant will receive a day pass for Barefoot Bay aquatic center. Cost is $40. There will be a $100 cash award for first overall male and female finishers. A free firecracker half-mile race for kids 8 and under will begin about 9 a.m. Participants will receive a firecracker freeze pop and medal. Visit mundeleinparks.org/.
