Lincolnshire police say man who struck officer with car was found in Iowa
Following a tip from the public, authorities in Iowa apprehended a man who investigators believe struck a Lincolnshire police officer last Thursday while driving recklessly on Milwaukee Avenue near Aptakisic Road.
Michael J. Ockermann, 32, was arrested Sunday by authorities in Dubuque after he was spotted near the entrance of a city park, Lincolnshire police said.
Dubuque County sheriff's Sgt. Mike Brehm said Ockermann consented at a Monday court hearing to extradition and will be transported to Lake County in the coming days.
Ockermann, who officials said has no permanent address, was charged last week in Lake County with felony aggravated battery. A Lake County judge set his bail at $350,000.
Police said Thursday a man was driving in circles across all lanes of Milwaukee Avenue. An officer tried to block northbound traffic on Milwaukee Avenue, but she was struck after stepping out of her squad car, Lincolnshire police Cmdr. Kim Covelli said Friday.
After hitting her, Ockermann drove away, authorities said. Police initially sped after him but stopped the chase when it posed too much of a danger to the public, Covelli said.
The officer was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, treated and released.
