A man tried to abduct a woman Tuesday night in Winfield, authorities said.

A woman was walking on the path at the east end of Beacher Avenue around 6:40 p.m. when a man aged 25 to 35 approached her from behind and began chasing her, according to a news release from the Winfield Police Department.

The man has dark hair and dark eyes and was wearing a black long-sleeved shirt, dark pants, black shoes and a black hat, the news release said. He was last seen heading west on foot on Beacher Avenue toward Church Street.

Police ask residents in the area with video surveillance to review the footage recorded from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. If you have information about the case, call Cpl. Caringella at (630) 933-7160.
