Batavia is seeking a new 4th Ward alderman after the resignation of Joe Knopp.

Knopp, who was elected in 2019, is moving to the Rockford area, according to a post on his Facebook page.

People who want to fill his seat must send an application to Mayor Jeff Schielke by 4 p.m. Oct. 1.

The mayor will appoint the replacement with the advice and consent of the city council.

Applicants must have resided in the 4th Ward for at least a year. They have to be a qualified voter, lived in the city at least one year preceding the election or appointment, not owe the city any money, and not have been convicted of any felonies, "infamous crimes" or bribery or perjury.

In addition, they will have to file a statement of economic interest with the Kane County clerk's office.

The appointee will serve until the April 2023 election.
