A fire of undetermined cause early Friday left an Algonquin house uninhabitable.

Firefighters called to the 300 block of Country Lane about 5:25 a.m. found heavy fire coming from the roof of the two-story single-family house. The occupants were not at home at the time and no injuries were reported.

The fire was under control within 20 minutes, according to the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District. The cause is being investigated.

A damage estimate was not available but the house was considered uninhabitable, firefighters said. Neighboring houses also were damaged but residents are able to occupy them, firefighters said.

Firefighters from the Cary, Huntley and Fox River Grove fire protection districts and the Crystal Lake fire department assisted.
