Republicans in DuPage County appeared to have picked an incumbent as their nominee for auditor while a GOP newcomer was leading in the primary race for recorder of deeds.

In the race for auditor, Republican incumbent Bob Grogan of Downers Grove appeared to defeat Jeffrey Mack of Downers Grove in the GOP primary. With 55 percent of the precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Grogan with 21,627 votes and Mack with 13,719 votes.

The winner will face the Democratic nominee in November.

Meanwhile, Babette Holder Youngberg of Wheaton was leading Ron Almiron of Wheaton in the race to pick the GOP nominee for the recorder seat held by Republican Fred Bucholz, who is retiring. With 55 percent of the precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Youngberg with 18,233 votes and Almiron with 16,428 votes.

The GOP nominee will face Kathleen Carrier of Carol Stream during the general election. Carrier ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.

The recorder's office is the custodian of all the county's land records.
