As shoppers are running around Randall Road checking off their holiday to-do list, taking a break at a local McDonald's now will be a little easier.

The McDonald's at the busy intersection of Randall and Algonquin roads in Algonquin recently reopened after a facelift and traffic flow improvement project, that now makes getting through the drive-through a little easier, especially during this hectic time of year.

Already customers are raving about the improvements, manager Alyssa Szpila said.

Previously, the entrance and exit of the drive through overlapped and caused some issues for customers. Now, it is easier to navigate.

"They love it," she said. "It's definitely an improvement."

Both the inside and outside of the fast food restaurant are different now, she said.

Russ Farnum, community development director for the village of Algonquin, said the project was driven by McDonald's, but that is a welcome improvement in the community.

The drive-through flow is now better outside, he said. And inside, the restaurant has a more modern design motif, Farnum said.

Szpila said the bathrooms are upgraded, and more modern. Guests also will notice new, more modern tables.

"It's a big change," she said.

Santa at the Commons:

After all of the Thanksgiving festivities are finished and the dishes washed, Santa will be arriving along the Randall Road corridor to kick off Christmas celebrations.

He will make a grand entrance Friday at the Geneva Commons shopping center, as part of the outdoor mall's Light up the Night celebration.

The festivities begin at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, when Santa will arrive by fire truck to light the Christmas tree at the mall. He will get a little help from the St. Charles North High School dance team.

Santa will visit with little ones in the crowd who want to share their Christmas lists with him. He will be visiting with kids until 7 p.m. that night.

All of the stores and restaurants throughout the shopping center will be open that night for shoppers to make dents in their Christmas lists and to refill their bellies after their Thanksgiving meals. Many of the businesses will be having special sales and events in conjunction with Black Friday that day.
