Hain ousts Kramer for Kane sheriff seat

For the second time this decade, voters have elected a Democrat as Kane County sheriff.

With all precincts reporting, Ron Hain, a sergeant at the sheriff's office, garnered 87,087 votes compared to 77,678 for Republican Don Kramer, ousting Kramer from the sheriff's seat, according to unofficial results Tuesday.

 

"It was all about getting our message out. This is not about politics, it's about public safety," said Hain, who will be sworn into office in early December.

"There is a need for someone with true law enforcement experience to bring in some truly innovative ideas."

Democrat Pat Perez was elected sheriff in 2006 and 2010 before Kramer won in 2014.

Hain said his priority is to ensure a smooth and productive transition for sheriff's office employees.

Hain's platform is fighting violent crime, reducing recidivism for jail inmates in part through job training, addressing the opioid crisis and reviving the department's unit to investigate internet crimes against children.
