Rosemont will reconfigure a ring road on the outer edge of its entertainment district to make space for free daytime parking.
The village board on Wednesday approved contracts totaling about $1.1 million for the roadway improvements and associated street lighting relocation work at Parkway Bank Park, the 200,000-square-foot complex east of the Tri-State Tollway and north of Balmoral Avenue.
The ring road, next to the tollway, will be moved seven feet closer to Hofbrauhaus Chicago, allowing for the installation of parking spots. Village officials hope the extra parking facilitates a larger lunchtime crowd in the park.
Mayor Brad Stephens said the new spots are meant to replace the parking lost in between Hofbrauhaus and the Big Ten Conference headquarters. That's where Windy City Motorcycle Company is leasing village-owned space for a new two-story, 20,000-square-foot Harley-Davidson motorcycle dealership and retail store. Those building plans are now in for review by village staff.
The street project also includes the removal of curbs and filling in with permeable pavement in front of entertainment district venues. The leveling out of the interior area of the park will make it more accessible for patrons, Stephens said.
