Longtime Kane County Board District 9 member T.R. Smith did not seek another term and endorsed Tom Koppie as his successor.

Republican primary voters agreed Tuesday, choosing Koppie by 1,303 votes compared to 970 for Connie von Keudell, a former Hampshire Fire Protection District trustee, according to unofficial results.

Koppie, a farmer and a former Rutland Township trustee, now advances to the Nov. 6 election. No Democrat has filed for the seat.

Both candidates agreed on several issues -- such as imposing a sunset clause for any toll on the Longmeadow Parkway. Koppie opposed any tax increase; von Keudell said it should only be a last resort.
