Fire trucks join funeral procession for retired firefighter
Fire trucks and other emergency vehicles formed a funeral procession Friday to honor a former Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District firefighter.
Lt. James F. Carney, 43, of Wadsworth, died Sunday after a three-year cancer fight.
Carney joined the district as a firefighter-paramedic in 2000. He retired in December 2014 after being diagnosed with cancer.
A funeral Mass was said at the Church of St. Patrick in Wadsworth.
Approximately a dozen fire engines and at least 20 SUVs and cars from area police and departments participated in the procession from the church to Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville. Fire engines and vehicles also lined the route to the cemetery.
Carney's casket was carried on Engine, 52, and his fire coat and helmet were placed on the front.
