Meet the Elburn candidates Sunday

Meet the candidates for Elburn village president and trustees at a spaghetti dinner from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 1 at Lions Park pavilion, 500 Filmore St.

All of the candidates have been invited to speak for five minutes. There will be an opportunity to ask questions after the short presentations.

 

Dave Anderson and Patricia Romke are running for village president. Kenneth Anderson, Jr., Tom Burgholzer, David Gualdoni, Jeffrey Humm, Joseph (Jerry) Schmidt, Robert Swartz and Jeffrey Walter are all running for village trustee. There are three openings on the board, each is for a four-year term. Burgholzer and Humm are incumbents, and Romke is also currently a trustee.

Planning for farmers market: Anyone interested in becoming a vendor, or just learning more about the Sugar Grove farmers market, is invited to a planning meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, March 9 at the Sugar Grove Community House, 141 Main St.

The farmers market will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays from June 6 through Sept. 26 in the parking lot of the municipal building, 10 S. Municipal Drive.

The village board will have its annual open house at the June 6 market.

WCC student art awards: Four works by three Waubonsee Community College art students have been accepted in the 2009 Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Juried Art Exhibition. Two of these works received special honors.

Samantha Oulavong of Montgomery earned the exhibit's "Best in Show" award for her photograph, "Young Mother with Child." A second photo of hers, "Man with Bicycle Tire" was also accepted into the show.

Receiving one of the competition's four awards of merit was Rick Scalzo of Aurora, for his photograph "No Time to Stop." "Radio Rocket," a ceramics piece by Lara Elijah of Elburn, will also be a part of the exhibition.

The Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Juried Art Exhibition runs through Saturday, March 7 at Prairie State College, 202 S. Halsted St., in Chicago Heights.
