You can enjoy a night under the stars -- and learn about astronomy -- at a Des Plaines school next week.

The free, family-friendly astronomy event is set for Tuesday at Algonquin Middle School, 767 E. Algonquin Road. Last held in 2019, it will run rain or shine from 7 to 9 p.m.

 

Students, parents and community members are invited to check out the night sky with telescopes, view a presentation about the images coming from the James Webb Space Telescope and participate in scientific design challenges.

There will also be demonstrations by amateur astronomers and opportunities to create astronomy-themed crafts.

"Several members from the Northwest Suburban Astronomers volunteer their time to teach our students about astronomy," teacher Sarah Murphy said in a news release. "The volunteers bring their telescopes, presentations and activities, which are incredibly engaging."

People can learn about science courses at Maine West High School, too.
