Maine East students to stage plays based on elementary students' short stories
In an unusual collaboration, the Maine East High School drama department will stage plays based on short stories from East Maine School District 63 students next week.
The show, "From Page! To Stage!" is set for 7 p.m. May 5 at Maine East, 2601 Dempster St., Park Ridge.
"We are so excited to start this collaboration with District 63," Maine East drama teacher Karen Hall said. "It's such a great chance for our Maine East drama students to create theater from the ground up and explore all of these imaginative stories."
Hall had reached out to the District 63 schools to get the project started, requesting original works written by students. Fifty-five students submitted pieces, Maine Township High School District 207 spokesman Brett Clark said.
Fourteen made the final cut. They include "The Four Sisters," "The Dragon Adventure," "The Sad Goodbye" and "My Voice."
The young writers and their families have been invited to attend the show.
"We can't wait to meet the authors at our performance," Hall said.
The plays will be filmed and shared with the District 63 schools, too.
If you plan to attend the show, a $2 donation is suggested, per person.
