GENEVA -- Geneva Commons, the premier open-air shopping and dining destination located in Chicago's western suburbs, is excited to announce the Winners of its inaugural Uncommon Collective, a contest for small businesses to win a free pop-up storefront or restaurant space. The Winners will be awarded a free location at Geneva Commons, as well as cash prize to be used toward the design and build-out of their dream pop-up.

"We're thrilled to announce the Winners of the Uncommon Collective Contest and can't wait to see how each brand flourishes and grows throughout the next few months, with the support of the lively community at Geneva Commons," said Cathy Charut, General Manager of Geneva Commons. "We had originally planned to select two winners, but we were so impressed by our Finalists that we chose five winners in total! This program is a testament to our commitment to help fuel the creativity and success of small businesses in the Tri-City area."

Each winner's Pop-up is scheduled to open during the summer months, Memorial Day through Labor Day. The following small businesses have been named winners:

They have a passion for bringing joy to people by making simple baked goods, always of the best quality. At their Pop-up this summer, they will offer artisanal bagels, ranging in flavors from everything to jalapeño, and pan de pueblo, a baguette style bread from Spain.

The contest was open to all new and established local businesses, brands and concepts looking to open a brick-and-mortar space. Applications were accepted during a monthlong period and those interested in entering completed a short application form on the website. At the end of the application period, the Geneva Commons team, and a panel of judges selected seven Finalists. Finalists participated in in-person interviews and a Finalist Showcase Day at the center to test-run their concepts for the public.

Finalists were also highlighted on the Geneva Commons website and social channels, so followers and frequent shoppers could vote on which concept they would like to see open this summer. While fan votes did not solely determine the winning brands, they were taken into consideration when making the final winner selections.

Each winning concept will be awarded either a retail storefront or restaurant space at Geneva Commons during the summer months (Memorial Day through Labor Day), as well as a cash prize to be used toward the design and build-out of their dream pop-up. No rent will be charged; however, Winners will be responsible for utility charges during their stay.
