Cook County Sheriff's Police will conduct a roadside safety checkpoint Friday night through early Saturday morning somewhere in Leyden Township, according to a news release sent Thursday. At the checkpoint officers will ensure drivers are complying with driver's license and registration requirements as well as look for anyone driving impaired.
According to sheriff's police, the checkpoint's aim is to emphasize roadway safety, increase seat belt usage by motorists, promote the importance of safe travel, and help reduce the number of vehicle crashes in Cook County. It is paid for by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
