Ryder Cup history lives on through mall exhibit

Two Chicago legends with Hall of Fame credentials -- Scottie Pippen of the Bulls and Stan Mikta of the Blackhawks -- were on hand Friday to help open a 4,000-square-foot showcase at Oakbrook Center honoring the history of the Ryder Cup.

Dubbed "The Ryder Cup Exhibit … Where Legends are Forged and Legacies are Made," the display is the first for the Ryder Cup and will run through Sept. 30, The final day of the exhibit coincides with the concluding day of the 39th Ryder Cup between the United States and Europe at famed Medinah Country Club, Sept. 25-30.

 

The exhibit, located across from Macy's in Oak Brook, is open to the public with complimentary admission. It features more than 60 rare items dating back to 1927 that celebrate the Ryder Cup's storied past.

Among the artifacts featured are personal Ryder Cup-related items of Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Dow Finsterwald and 2012 Captains Davis Love III and Jose Maria Olazabal, highlighted by the golf bag used by Nicklaus during his famous "Concession" match in the 1969 Ryder Cup at Royal Birkdale G.C. in England

Exhibit hours at Oakbrook Center are noon to 7 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
