Island Lake officials will host a fishing competition called Carp Fest on June 23-24. Whoever catches the heaviest carp will get a $50 prize, and whoever catches the most carp will get $100. Proceeds will help reduce the carp population in the town's namesake lake. Registration is $10 for adults or $3 for anyone 15 or younger. Fishing licenses are required. For more information, call Willie Kootstra at (847) 526-8767 or Frank DeSort at (847) 526-8764.
