Palatine's Movie Night set for Aug. 21
Next month's Movie Night in downtown Palatine is shaping up to have a little something for everyone.
Sponsored by the Palatine Area Chamber of Commerce, the original "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" will be shown at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, on the east side of the Harris Bank building, 50 N. Brockway St.
Moviegoers interested in checking out the 1971 flick starring Gene Wilder are encouraged to bring their own chairs. Seating is available on Station Street, just east of the building.
New this year is a beer tent hosted by the Palatine Jaycees and nearby Lamplighter Inn. The Palatine village council this week approved organizer Liz Noe's proposal after hearing the tent would be small and offer only beer.
Before the movie begins, there will be a variety of activities for the entire family including face painting, family art projects and family Baggo Tournament.
The movie is part of the chamber's 2011 community art initiative, "Chillin' in Palatine," which also features wooden ice chests decorated by local artists. The chests will be on display from Aug. 21 to the end of September throughout the village and then auctioned off to benefit charity.
