On Oct. 2, Wesley United Methodist Church in Aurora began accepting donations for immigrants arriving in Chicago from Texas.

The Rev. John Bell, Wesley pastor, said donations may be left in the lobby of the church at 14 N. May St. in Aurora.

According to Pastor Bell, immediate needs are: small-size clothing including socks, underwear and sports bras; first aid kits; over-the-counter medications such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen; personal hygiene items including toiletries and feminine products; and duffle bags and small suitcases.

The Rev. Bell said Wesley is among churches across the UMC Northern Illinois Conference which are serving as donation collection sites.

Prince of Peace UMC in Elk Grove Village has donated vans full of supplies to migrants who are being housed in the village.

Additionally, Prince of Peace congregants collected $625 which the mission team spent on jackets and jeans.

Volunteers are needed for donation sorting, distribution and food service.

Justice for Our Neighbors, a United Methodist legal aid agency, is helping migrants with paperwork and court dates. To assist, visit nijfon.org.

Wesley United Methodist Church holds in-person worship at 10:30 a.m. Sundays. For information on the church, call (630) 896-1033.
