James Bond movie car adds to opening weekend excitement at Richardson's "World's Largest" corn maze
This weekend, not only can maze enthusiasts meander 10.3 miles of 007-inspired trails across 28 acres of corn, they also can see an Aston Martin built for use in Pierce Brosnan's final Bond film, "Die Another Day."
Jim Wojdyla, marketing director at the Volo Museum, said he and museum Manager Brian Grams saw recent news accounts of the Richardson Adventure Farm's 2022 "60 Years of James Bond" maze design. And it got them to thinking "We have this very sleek, gorgeous car from the Bond franchise, and Brian and I thought what a great opportunity to join forces and help promote each other's venues," Wojdyla said. "Richardson's has a terrific reputation for family fun, as do we. This is a perfect fit."
Connecting with other area businesses to amplify the fun quotient is always a winning idea, agreed George Richardson, who runs Richardson Farm along with his wife, Wendy, his brother, Robert, Robert's wife, Carol, George's son, Ryan, and Ryan's wife, Kristen.
"It's a spectacular added attraction for our opening weekend," George Richardson said. "When they contacted us, of course we said 'Yes!'"
The car will be on display near the observation tower entrance to the "World's Largest Corn Maze" this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10-11. Built as a stunt car for the 2002 film, this 2001 Aston Martin Vanquish is actually a fiberglass replica atop a Jaguar chassis, Wojdyla said.
With its hood-mounted "weapons" and unusual grill features, the coupe has Bond written all over it.
Along with a casino and the faces of other key Bond actors Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Daniel Craig, aerial views show Brosnan and an Aston Martin also are depicted in the maze. So the opportunity to view the screen-used car from the last of four Brosnan-Bond films is a fitting addition to the fun.
