Aurora Central Catholic brings college-level coaching experience to varsity football team
Aurora Central Catholic High School -- a school committed to the spiritual formation and education of young adults in the Fox Valley area for over 50 years -- is pleased to name Christian Rago as its new head football coach and assistant dean. Rago brings nearly 10 years of combined college and high school coaching experience to Aurora Central Catholic (ACC) High School.
In his new role, Rago will lead training sessions, create game plans, direct players during gameplay and provide one-to-one coaching. As assistant dean, Rago will lead ACC's advanced fitness class program and aid with the planning, coordination, and administration of other school programs and activities.
"It's an honor to join Aurora Central Catholic High School's acclaimed athletic network," said Rago. "As head football coach, my mission is to focus on developing the whole person, empowering each student-athlete to reach new levels of success both on and off the field."
Rago comes to ACC from St. Patrick High School in Chicago where he served as a varsity assistant coach and offensive coordinator, leading his team to the quarterfinals -- the deepest playoff run in the school's history.
Previously, Rago was the assistant head coach and wide receivers/outside linebackers coach at his alma mater, Woodstock High School, where he played football and helped his team earn recognition as a second-round qualifier in 2009 and a semifinalist in 2010. Before coaching at Woodstock, Rago was an assistant football coach at the University of Chicago where he was responsible for training linebackers.
Rago became a graduate assistant football coach at his alma mater, Aurora University, after earning a bachelor's degree and serving as a linebacker for the Spartan football team. While completing his master's degree in business administration, he instructed tight ends and backfield players, helping AU clinch the 2016 NACC football championship. Rago began his coaching career at Montana State University-Northern training running backs.
"Rago's college-level coaching experience, enthusiasm and strong work ethic align well with our vision for ACC's football program," said Paul Mayer, principal at Aurora Central Catholic High School and Aurora area superintendent for the Rockford Diocese. "We're excited to start a new chapter of Charger football under Coach Rago, and the future looks very bright."
Rago's new appointment coincides with the completion of ACC's new strength and fitness center, featuring state-of-the-art equip.m.ent that provides students, athletes, faculty and staff with on-site circuit training.
The school is still accepting applications for multiple assistant coach positions as the school continues to expand its varsity coaching staff for the 2022 football season. Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter and resume to Christian Rago at firstname.lastname@example.org for consideration.
