GreenSeed Contract Packaging CEO David Gray was named the winner of the 2021 Entrepreneurial Excellence Award for Regional Spirit by the Daily Herald Business Ledger, sponsored by Republic Bank, and in partnership with NAWBO Chicago. The Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards recognize individuals and businesses demonstrating the best traits of entrepreneurship, including the willingness to take risks, drive, perseverance, and business creativity. The award in the category of Regional Spirit also shows commitment to the growth and well-being of the company's region through outstanding corporate citizenship and promotion of regional ties.

From the time GreenSeed was established, Gray wanted the organization to be "a different type of company." One that would offer value, foster growth for its clients, and enact global change. The company's vision is to be a representative of change, raising social, environmental, community and supply chain consciousness. It does this by bringing regional attention to global issues, leveraging partnership ties to bring change to its region, being active in local and regional business groups, promoting charitable and civic causes, and working to build the region's workforce and enhance its quality of life.

"The team at GreenSeed strives to give back more than we take from this world," said Gray. "We believe in a growth-for-all strategy by focusing on employee development, client ideation, leading with transparency, and creating a community of partners who support the company's mission of making food accessible to everyone. We want to be the company that stands for something bigger than ourselves."

GreenSeed works to build the region's workforce by inspiring a winning culture internally with hopes that leaders will become mentors externally for the community. The company does this by embracing inclusion, developing leaders, promoting from within, and building relationships with the local workforce community. GreenSeed implements programs such as Purpose-Driven Coaching and AwardCo -- a platform providing rewards and recognition to employees using points that can be used anywhere. Gray believes that by being learning-focused, people-focused, and growth-inspired, GreenSeed will become the best version of itself and help others in its community do the same.

"The Daily Herald Business Ledger's Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards (EEA) highlight successful suburban entrepreneurs and their businesses, organizations and nonprofits. The individuals honored have demonstrated the best traits of entrepreneurship, including drive, perseverance, business creativity and the willingness to take risk," stated Andy Zielonka, manager of Sales and Operations at the Daily Herald. "The 18 honorees being recognized have faced unprecedented challenges this past year and have met those challenges with innovation and determination. The Regional Spirit Award is given to individuals who demonstrate commitment to the growth and well-being of the region through outstanding corporate citizenship and promotion of regional ties."
