Historic Long Grove Morphs into Halloween Town this October
Historic downtown Long Grove (www.longgrove.org) is once again morphing into Halloween Town during the month of October.
Highlighted by a variety of exciting seasonal events and atmosphere, Halloween Town offers families an opportunity to enjoy the sights, sounds, and thrills of fall with a vintage small-town setting as the backdrop. It's also a chance for fans of historic Long Grove to re-experience its newly renovated pedestrian comforts such as brand-new sidewalks and night-time lighting.
Oktoberfest 5k - Oct. 2
The Oktoberfest 5k is the newest addition to the new Long Grove Run Fest benefitting the WINGS charity which aims to break the cycle of domestic violence. On the morning of October 2nd, runners will navigate the historic Halloween Town streets for a good cause then finish at Buffalo Creek Brewing where they'll enjoy a complimentary beer, gourmet soft pretzels, and a refreshing autumn atmosphere. Registration for the Oktoberfest 5k can be found at https://allcommunityevents.com/oktoberfest5k.
DIY Scarecrow Day - Oct. 9
The suburb's biggest homage to scarecrow-making returns to Halloween Town. Do It Yourself Scarecrow Day is an afternoon dedicated to harvesting family fun. Scarecrow engineers are invited to reserve a time to build their own custom scarecrow modeled after any character or idea they like. Participants are encouraged to plan ahead, gather clothing and accessories, and register in advance through LongGrove.org. A $10 registration fee per scarecrow earns each group of builders a wood base, hay for stuffing, and building guidance from a team of volunteers.
Witches Night Out - Oct. 14
Businesses in Halloween Town will be open late for grown-up witches and warlocks to have fun shopping, sipping, and dining! Participating businesses will feature specials, discounts, giveaways and more for all the little pretties who attend. Witches who register in advance through LongGrove.org or at the event will be entered to win prizes donated by merchants throughout the night.
Pet Costume Parade - Oct. 24
Pets throughout the region are invited to claw into their best Halloween duds and howl at the moon at Halloween Town's annual Pet Costume Parade! It's free to enter or watch the parade, but all dogs must remain leashed. The event begins at approximately 11:15 a.m. with a complimentary dog agility training session led by an expert team, the Agility Junkies.
