Physical Therapy Needs After COVID-19

Creative Rehab expands its services to those recovering from COVID-19 who have lingering physical limitations

[Gurnee, IL]: Creative Rehab announces in-office and telehealth physical therapy for people in the community recovering from COVID-19. This service helps restore a person's mobility, flexibility, endurance and strength after suffering symptoms related to COVID-19 and being sedentary while ill.

Common symptoms of COVID-19 include coughing, difficulty breathing, and poor oxygenation to the muscle tissues. "With decreased oxygen, the body has limited endurance and is forced to be sedentary" says Elise Williams, physical therapist at Creative Rehab. "This lack of activity combined with an overuse of muscles to assist with breathing and coughing can cause muscle tightness and pain."

Williams further explains that with "difficulty breathing people are likely to have increased use of accessory breathing muscles including those of the neck. This can lead to neck pain, limited mobility of the cervical and thoracic spine, rib pain, as well as upper and middle back pain." These issues may range from mild to severe and can limit a person's ability to perform normal daily activities or return to exercise without limitations.

Benefits of Creative Rehab's Post-COVID Program:

• Correct breathing mechanics

• Restore mobility in restricted joints

• Improve flexibility of tight or sore muscles
