On the 12th hole at Heritage Oaks Golf Club, Glenbrook North sophomore Alexis Myers striped one down the left side of the fairway.

She was even at the turn and had recorded two pars on the back nine, and standing over her ball 110 yards from the pin, she gripped a pitching wedge in her hand. Her score was apt to change.

"I was just thinking about putting it close," Myers said after Monday's round, "not exactly making it, but it was on track the whole time. I put my head down and everyone was cheering."

Myers (2-under 69) didn't know it went in. She recorded an eagle on that hole and went on to win the Class 2A Glenbrook Northbrook sectional, as did the rest of her team, shooting a combined 14-over 298.

"I'm not surprised by the results," said coach Mike Schroeder on Myers' performance. "She's a great player. She put in the prep and was ready for this course and came out and played well." As for the rest of the team, they weren't too far behind Myers.

Kacie Moon finished T-3 with a 3-over 74, Martha Kuwahara recorded a seventh-place finish with 75, and Laura Hu rounded out the top four scores for the Spartans with an 80.

And it feels as if this won't be the last time this team makes noise, as all four players are underclassmen. Myers and Moon are sophomores and Kuwahara and Hu are freshmen.

"It's really exciting," Schroeder said. "They're just some great young players, and they continue to push each other to be the best and support each other. We've got a lot of momentum going down to Decatur."

The Decatur that Schroeder speaks of is home of this week's state finals at Hickory Oaks Golf Club. Joining the Spartans on Friday and Saturday will be New Trier (317) and Loyola Academy (323), but Myers believes that her team has the spunk to shake things up in the finals.

"I think that we can do some things at state that people don't really know we can do," she said."

The remaining 10 players from the non-qualifiers that will joining the rest of the field in Decatur include: Effie Perakis, Glenbrook South (73); Sadie Zorrilla, Conant (76); Keira Brazeau, Fremd (78); Bridget Craig, Wheaton North (79); Madison Place, Lake Park (80); Meilin Hoshino, Whitney Young (81); Natalie Von Oesen, Rolling Meadows (82); Marisa Lerario, Lake Park (83); Gloria Lee, Fremd (84); Emily Torok, Prospect (85).
