Despite the bumps, Cubs' Rizzo was confident MLB could finish season

Before Friday's game, Anthony Rizzo was asked if he's surprised they made it to this point of the pandemic season, a little more than a week before playoffs will begin.

"Surprising? Not really," he said. "Once the Marlins and Cardinals got it and the show kept going, we knew there was no way the operation was shutting down. It goes to credit a lot of guys in all the organizations, all the players for holding themselves accountable, not running amok and putting themselves in positions to contract the virus and spreading.

The Cubs haven't had a player test positive for COVID-19 all summer, although a couple of coaches have contracted the disease.

"I think a lot of teams have done it," Rizzo said. "Even teams that have got it, maybe it was a freak accident, I don't know. But we're happy where we're at. We're looking forward to the postseason and getting rolling."
