Vernon Hills and American Legion Post 1247 created a virtual 2020 Memorial Day that will be available on the village's Facebook page and has been released to Lake County's special site https://memorial-day-lakecountyil.hub.arcgis.com/.

Vernon Hills will share the Memorial Day message from Post 1247, followed by video from the initial dedication of the Veteran's Memorial and the Vernon Hills Arbortheater from Memorial Day 1996. It includes footage of keynote speaker Bill Hewicker, a volunteer pilot of the first B-17 Flying Fortress bomber sent to rescue the crew of the USS Indianapolis. The video opens with a fly over by Libertyville resident Steve Bolander and includes music by the Stevenson High School band. The village in coming days will also share messages from local veterans.
