Felony hate crime charges were filed Thursday against a man who harangued a woman over her Puerto Rico shirt last month in a Cook County forest perserve.

Timothy G. Trybus was arrested on Thursday.

Initially, the Northwest Side man had been charged with misdemeanor counts of assault and disorderly conduct. Those lesser charges will likely be dropped. Trybus is scheduled to appear in bond court on Friday in Skokie.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez faulted the Cook County forest preserve cop who stood by during the confrontation, and the congressman drew a line connecting the incident to President Donald Trump.

Trump's "bullying" and "bigotry" fueled the flap, Gutierrez said in a speech on the House floor Thursday.
