• A sheriff's deputy responded to the 11N800 block of Winhaven Drive near Elgin at about 5:49 p.m. Saturday for a report of shots fired. The homeowner told the deputy he had just bought an AR-15, had a valid Firearm Owner's Identification card and shot five rounds in the ground to show his friends. No charges were filed and the deputy told the homeowner he needed to build some type of berm on his property if he was going to shoot his guns there.

• A resident of the 39W200 block of Fabyan Parkway near Geneva reported a case of identity theft at 2:15 p.m. July 3 after learning of an unauthorized withdrawal of $1,100 from one of his accounts.

• Someone drove a sedan through a security gate at the Wilson Street entrance to Fermilab near Batavia at about 5:02 p.m. July 2, causing $1,000 damage.
