Letter: Opioid distributors should pay for treatment
It is commendable to provide treatment for those afflicted by the drug manufacturers push to sell opioids.
But the problem is so widely spread that more help is needed. There are many lawsuits filed to hold these manufacturers and distributors accountable. But only the specific plaintiffs will be somewhat "made whole".
We have hundreds of thousands of people addicted. I would suggest that any court judgment require the manufacturers/distributors of these opioids to fully pay for all treatment programs including buildings used, staff needed, equipment needed, etc. until independent health agencies have determined the opioid crisis to be over; no matter how long that takes.
Why should the public pay for their immoral greed? If they can pay one CEO tens of millions of dollars per year, they can foot the bill for their actions.
