Try this: Tobacco does not cause cancer

Recently the Daily Herald published multiple letters from authors claiming that climate change is a hoax. This is about as responsible as the paper allowing me to claim that nicotine is not addictive, or tobacco doesn't cause cancer. While the freedom of the press is a very cherished constitutional right, there is also a matter of responsibility.

In last Sunday's edition of NBC's "Meet the Press" Chuck Todd took an unusual step of dedicating the entire show to a single topic, climate change. He opened the show by saying he will not "give time to climate deniers" on the program and declared, "The earth is getting hotter, and human activity is a major cause. Period." Ninety-seven percent of the world's accredited scientists agree.

Kudos to NBC and Chuck Todd. When will the Daily Herald begin to show similar responsibility on such an important topic, or should I write the "smoking is safe" letter to the editor?
